Job Title: Process Technician

Job Description

The Process Technician operates and controls chemical production processes for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, ensuring stable, high-quality output in a fast-paced, advanced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on managing plating, etching, stripping, developing, surface treatment, and cleaning processes through precise chemical analysis, dosing, and recipe adjustments. The technician monitors and troubleshoots chemical baths and equipment, manages hazardous materials safely, and partners closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to improve yields, reduce variability, and drive continuous process optimization. Accurate documentation, inventory control of chemical consumables, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) are central to success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control chemical production processes for PCB manufacturing, including plating, etching, stripping, developing, surface treatment, and cleaning.
  • Monitor process parameters and equipment performance to ensure stable, consistent production quality.
  • Perform chemical analysis, dosing, and recipe adjustments to maintain optimal bath chemistry and process conditions.
  • Troubleshoot chemical baths and process equipment, identifying deviations in chemistry or performance and executing corrective actions.
  • Conduct calibrations and preventive maintenance on production machinery and process equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Safely handle chemicals and hazardous materials, including transport, loading and unloading, and use in production processes.
  • Manage waste segregation and disposal of flammable, toxic, corrosive, or otherwise hazardous chemicals in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Inspect equipment and processes to identify potential issues early and ensure adherence to SOPs and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to improve chemical processes, yields, and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Support root cause analysis of process failures or nonconformances and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Contribute to process optimizations that reduce cost, downtime, and variability while improving throughput and quality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process parameters, calibrations, maintenance activities, and production records.
  • Track and manage inventory of chemical consumables and process-related materials using production and inventory management software such as MES/ERP.
  • Support the development, updating, and implementation of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Participate in training activities and knowledge sharing to help onboard and support other technicians.
  • Apply lock out tag out procedures, job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting practices when working on mechanical and process systems.
  • Read and interpret P&ID and schematic wiring diagrams to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble mechanical and industrial equipment, including bearings, gears, and structural components, as needed for process reliability.
  • Work independently in a high-paced environment, rapidly shifting priorities and roles while maintaining organization and focus on critical tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with other technicians, engineers, and cross-functional partners to coordinate work and resolve issues quickly.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience with printed circuit boards (PCBs), engineering laminates, electrochemical processes, and/or microelectronics fabrication, including experience gained through school projects, clubs, or internships.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or wet lab.
  • Hands-on experience with production machinery operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience with process parameters and engineering units such as temperature, pressure, flow, and power.
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID and schematic wiring diagrams.
  • Experience handling flammable, toxic, corrosive, or hazardous chemicals safely and in accordance with procedures.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment and systems, including isolating malfunctions, disassembling industrial machinery, and repairing or replacing bearings, gears, and structural components.
  • Experience with lock out tag out procedures, job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting.
  • Proficiency using a computer and MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using production and inventory management software such as MES/ERP.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and chemical process contexts.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work closely with other technicians and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to identify and maintain priorities for tasks and projects while staying organized in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-paced, challenging work environment with minimal oversight and to rapidly change roles and responsibilities as needed.
  • Current or past certification for IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with laboratory practices and chemical analysis techniques in a production or wet lab environment.
  • Experience in sterile processing, inspection, assembly, and manufacturing process operations.
  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production line workflows.
  • Comfort working with electrochemical processes and surface treatment operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization projects.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to adapt quickly to new equipment, processes, and technologies in an advanced manufacturing setting.
