Job Summary
Learns the Plycutting Technician role by completing training and practicing on the job, learning how to assist in the plycutting area pulling plies up, building kits, provide kits to other departments as needed. Operates plycutter with either individual files or “Super Nests” in order to cut fiberglass plies and kits. Retrieve plies from the plycutter, putting them in numerical order, then onto rolls or into bags as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Develop skills to regularly arrange material on cutting table according to length required for cutting, including centering, taping, or applying veil when required.
- Initiates and maintains appropriate digitizing worksheet changes and maintains appropriate changes within the established file system.
- Understanding importance of computer security, safeguards assigned passwords and exercises appropriate computer security procedures on a daily basis.
- Learn to build kits for completeness, proper storage techniques, accuracy of paperwork and shipping labels if required. Technicians shall complete tracks and files as necessary work instructions, material roll tags, or any other necessary paperwork.
- Understands and assists with required preventive and operator maintenance on the plycutter & digitizer systems. Technician must perform computer and Plycutter initializations. Ensures air pump is turned on and verifies air pressure by gauge on the cutting head.
- Monitors table vacuum pressure and verifies appropriate parameters. In Plotter Pilot - locates, configures and verifies Preferences program to meet operational demands; locates, manipulates and verifies requisite programs from Plot menu to meet operational demands. Recognizes situations requiring reconfiguration of the plycutter, and is able to successfully make those reconfigurations and understands the effects they will have on subsequent program runs.
- Trains to remove and remount blade holder from/to cutting head, cleans and replaces blades when necessary and makes appropriate blade depth and pressure adjustments.
- Utilizes first in-first out storage method when assigning kits to their respective storage location and attaches requisite work instruction to the kit in such a manner that it is easily accessible and readable to shop personnel.
- Ensures that all rolls of glass are loaded onto the racks are checked to make sure that the box, the wrappers, and the roll are appropriately marked from the manufacturer.
- Learns and practices 6S daily standards
Qualifications

- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of comparable composite work or 3 years manufacturing experience
- Understanding of Learning Management System (LMS) and governing documents (PDM)
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to effectively manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
