Role Purpose
To apply a broad range of accounting skills and experience to support both local and Corporate reporting requirements through providing professional financial forecasting, analysis and advice. To provide back-up support to the senior reporting accountant through the forecasting cycle.
Finance Analyst
This opportunity, based at our Prestwick site offers:
- 37 hour working week (half day Friday)

Responsibilities
- To prepare complex and detailed financial performance reports for both Spirit Europe and US Corporate audiences.
- To be capable of handling large volumes of data and consolidating and reporting this data effectively through the utilisation of strong IT skills.
- To provide support to Business Functions on all matters having a potential financial impact to the business.
- To effectively utilise the SAP ERP system in the preparation and reporting of financial performance.
- Where relevant to act as a Subject Matter Expert (eg. Material cost performance, SAP ERP) and to advise and assist the Finance Team and wider organisation in this capacity.
- To raise issues of concern/significant importance to Senior Finance staff in order to seek guidance/advice.
- To ensure the overall integrity of financial reporting information for business performance:-
- Labour & overhead performance against budget/forecast.
- Annual budget and quarterly forecasting review and analysis.
- Supply chain performance to budget/forecast.
- Specific Project Issues – make/buy, cost/benefit appraisal.
- To assist with the financial accounting month-end closure process with accruals and prepayments.
- To provide timely and accurate weekly variance analysis for the incurred cost team in the US and local SLC.
- To support decision making processes and to challenge performance of contacts where necessary by analysing key issues and trends, risks and opportunities.
- To support the Estimate at Complete (EAC) process through the development and maintenance of accurate and robust allocation models.
- To develop strong and productive working relationships with the wider organisation to ensure information incorporate into EAC’s is correct, current and has full buy-in from the organisation.
- To have a full understanding of Block Accounting and the impact this process has on profitability reporting and potential cumulative-catches.
- To support the delivery and development of the bid activity for new business opportunities and assist development of a robust bid model.
- To fully understand the classifications of inventory and how long-term/block accounting can impact different inventory classifications.
- To support quarterly stock-count activity by ensuring counts are undertaken diligently and accurately.
- To liaise with all external parties (Auditors, Customers) as required by the role.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Degree qualified with relevant experience
- Accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or studying towards
- Good communication skills
- Excellent IT Skills – particularly Excel
- Using knowledge and experience to promote process improvement
- Effective relationship management skills
Decision Making Authority
- Would be expected to make regular decisions that ensure the role functions efficiently - eg day to day work planning, prioritisation.
- Also would expect some degree of autonomous decision making on appropriate accounting skills/practices to adopt in certain circumstances.
- Would be expected to make own decisions on transaction processing (eg. posting journals/accruals) which would then require more senior approval/signoff.
