Job Summary:
Raytheon’s Airborne Multi-mission Electronics Department is seeking a Senior Principal RF/Microwave & Antenna Engineer to work onsite in Goleta, CA on Electronic Warfare (EW) electronics product development for defense applications. The role includes design, analysis, simulation, validation, test, and support of RF/microwave & for Electronic Warfare & Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) products & subsystems, and as needed leading project teams in these roles. Occasional travel (10-20) may be required to other Raytheon facilities and customer sites.
What You Will Do:
- Lead a digital team and define the signals between analog and digital interface and make sure the quality of final digital delivery.
- Responsible for the team’s design and hands-on testing of microwave components, cards and systems plus providing technical support to production activities.
- Leading a multidisciplinary engineering team throughout the project lifecycle, efficiently overseeing the schedule and budget, and maintaining accountability through Earned Value reporting.
- Mentoring junior engineering staff by creating and monitoring project development schedules, project budgeting, and reporting within an Earned Value Management system.
- Team leadership skills including cost and schedule management plus proposal writing and presentation experience are desired.
- Some travel to integration sites, plus customer and subcontractor facilities, may be required.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience in with analog design, Microwave/RF system, subsystem and component analysis, design, and test.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required (only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance).
Qualifications We Value:
- Expert or mastery level knowledge of RF/microwave and antennas, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. MS in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Equivalent.
- Antenna simulation (HFSS or equivalent), design, and test.
- Familiarity with industry standard RF/microwave circuit design software and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout
- Practical experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle
- Hands-on experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition and analytical tools such as Matlab
- Designing and testing analog CCAs (Circuit Card Assemblies), including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design and analog filter design
- Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission line design
- Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques
- Propensity for learning through self-study and being comfortable in a multi-tasking environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level
- Experience in a production environment
- Expert experience in Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMIC’s)
- Strong academic background that includes courses in: Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory and Radar Systems
- Strong hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques, including using spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and Performance Network Analyzer (PNAs)

The salary range for this role is 137,000 USD - 275,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
